According to the Las Vegas.gov web site, Vegas had a total population of 538,653 according to the 2005 Census Bureau. This included 269,827 Males and 268,826 Females.
There were 67,576 persons living in Las Vegas who were 65 years and over and over 393,383 persons were over the age of 18. This same report, reported that there were 42,540 little people under the age of 5 years old. (Preschool business big business in Las Vegas?)
Total housing units were listed at 228,139 and owner occupied housing units listed at 120,635, with renters at 84,053. However, the surprising news was that there were 23,451 housing units that were vacant
!The same web site confirmed that Las Vegas was in deed 100 years old on May 15, 2005 and that the first hotel and casino to open in Las Vegas was the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino in 1906. (Wasn’t that the same year as the San Francisco earthquake?)
The Moulin Rouge, the city’s first integrated hotel, opened in 1955 and in 1957, topless showgirls debuted on the Las Vegas Strip in “Minsky’s Follies” at the Dunes.
